Greece online gambling revenue rises 13.1% as regulator starts monthly reporting
Greek gambling regulator's new monthly reporting series shows online GGR reached €853.7m in January-August 2026, up 13.1%. The figures cover licensed market channels, not individual casino performance.
Online gambling outpaces the wider market
Greece's Hellenic Gaming Commission announced a new monthly market-data publication programme on 29 October 2026, releasing figures for January through August. The commission said it will publish comparable financial data by the tenth day of each following month, after operators submit their reports. The first release compares the eight-month period with the equivalent months of 2025.
Independent Greek financial reporting of the regulator's figures puts online gross gaming revenue at approximately €853.7 million, up 13.1% from €754.6 million a year earlier. Across all gambling channels, gross gaming revenue rose 4.2% to €2.06 billion. The online segment therefore expanded more quickly than the market overall, reaching roughly 41.4% of reported GGR.
What stakes, GGR and tax receipts mean
Total reported stakes, described as adjusted total gaming revenue or TGR in the commission's data, rose 10.4% to approximately €11.69 billion. This turnover figure should not be confused with operator GGR: stakes represent betting activity, while GGR is the amount retained after player winnings are paid out, before further business costs.
Online stakes increased 17.4% to about €5.65 billion. The regulator's published market series also shows public participation fees of approximately €484.5 million across the sector, while tax withheld on player winnings reached about €369.4 million. These are separate categories and should not be added to GGR or described as casino profit.
What changes for readers and operators
The new publication cadence makes it easier to track whether Greece's regulated online market continues growing without relying on isolated operator announcements. Figures are aggregated by channel, however, so they do not establish the market share, profitability or payment performance of any particular online casino or sportsbook.
The comparison covers January to August rather than a full calendar year. It also describes the regulated market and should not be read as a measurement of all unlicensed gambling activity. Players can use the commission's official licensed-provider register to check an operator's authorization instead of assuming that a brand serving Greek-language pages is licensed.
